I just posted this on Goodreads:
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Read the entire thing over one weekend!
I love historical fiction, especially when mixed with horror. My intro to Coy Hall was the short story Rider in the Widow Lands: A Sword & Sorcery Short Story, which I absolutely loved. I contacted him on Twitter, and we chatted a bit about the background of that world.
Mr. Hall posted an offer to read an ARC on Twitter, and I jumped at it.
The hidden horror in this old village is two-fold: one part being that it may or may not actually exist in “the real world”. I have a strong suspicion that our protagonist may have wandered into a sort of Twilight Zone…
I don’t want to spoil the second part, but I will say that I thought it was going in one direction, with a classic enemy, but instead it went another way altogether.
I’ll definitely be reading more from him! (I will also be adding this location to my RPG campaign!!)
