Based on the Pulp Alley expansion, Vice Alley, Yangzee City takes place in a fictional 1920s “Shanghai”.
The setting is inspired by Bartle Bull’s books “Shanghai Station” and “China Star“, as well as some stuff from “Tales from the Golden Monkey” TV show.

Yangzee City is loosely divided into nine sections, or Zones:
- Port City – the Docks, warehouses, flophouses and other seedy stuff
- Yangzee River Delta – swamps, farms and weird stuff
- Gora Bora Island – a Hotel, a fueling station and trading outpost
- The Japanese Zone – Princess Koji’s fortified island
- Gubei Foreign District – neighborhoods of non-Chinese residents, travelers, business people
- Huang Pu Downtown – Commercial and retail center
- Suzhou Creek – industrial center, poor district residential
- Yu Yu Garden Zone – luxurious living for the affluent
- Hengshan Road Zone – middle-class residential and commercial
