The World of Weirth is a setting much like a Hyborian Age, with danger at every turn, Swords & Sorcery magic, demons and mad prophets. Check the World of Weirth tab above for more info, including a draft of the Player’s Guide.
Episode 13: The Mask of Zenopus – part V
Today’s date: 11 Zazel
Note for Adora from ???
Adora, friend and colleague,
I send most grateful salutations. I am most impressed with your ability to respond so quickly to our summons. Your next assignment to take on is as an Outrider for the Lord of the Manse, Lord Zan of Zan’s Forge.
He is currently in Laralasbol for the wedding of his son, Aleskro. You should also attempt to befriend his daughter, Firuz. She is young, but clever and inquisitive. She is consumed by curiosity for the Fae Creatures rumored to live in the Iron Hills.
Use this information to your advantage, and my name for a reference. Do not mention Ris Balthus under any circumstances. I suggest you invite any of your current colleagues to join you, especially the young Lemurian Arcanist. There is more to him than meets the eye. My own Paiktus tells me he is “the man with the Crystal Hand” and that it is important that he reach the Labyrinth of Sand and avoid the Seekers of Emptiness. She knows no more than that.
There is a pound of silver secreted in your kit. I will have more for you when you reach ZF. Seek the Brewer, he is one of us – Ÿ.
May Orphune bless your travels,
Adora was not sure what to make of this, as she is not sure who the initials represent.
She shared her note with the crewe in the morning.
She also split up the 40 SP among the crewe.
Lore Drop: Paiktus
The profession of the Paiktus is to read fortunes and create hexes. They are followers of Eroidixiana, goddess of Water, Scrying, Purification, Direction-finding, Architecture, and Carpentry. Another category of Anointed, the Paikti also travel about as pilgrims and wayfarers, bringing foretelling to villages separated by leagues and weeks of travel. They have been trained to use their contact with the Esitouche to get a glimpse of the meanings behind the cards of the Tarot, the patterns of cast bones, and even in a splash of blood. The Paikti are called to perform blessings upon new constructions and reconstructions, as well as imbuing these structures with hexes of protection. As architects and carpenters they are part of the caste of Revelators, and are protected by the same taboos.
Aziagos received a note as well, in the morning:
Butler says the boy who brought it was just a pup, without any front teeth. The papyrus smells of lavender and cinnamon.
Greetings my handsome, murderous friend. Meet me at noon today at the Greensward (the park at the north end of town by the ziggurat).
Bring a pikinik basket and a jug of wine.
I will wear the yellow dress you like so much. We have much to discuss.
Your faithful Abductee and Longboatman,
He kept his note to himself, only later showing it to Lieres and asking for help in how to prepare to meet her. They went shopping for embutidos and cheeses, a jug of fine wine. Nearly 10 SP!
Shamirovar meets him in the park at the appointed time, appearing utterly unconcerned. Aziagos, however, was nervous and the crewe was expecting trouble, Lieres and Adora were hiding in the trees on the verge.
Shamirovar was very explicit in her instructions to Aziagos. She has a powerful personality and made it clear that he was not welcome in the tunnels any longer. She gave him a basket of 7 GP and suggested he join the first caravan out of Portasbol. Afterward her demeanor softened just a bit, shared a glass of wine and a “handshake”, then went on her way, without looking back.
Ploon joins them briefly for breakfast, asks several questions about the sphere:
Did it talk, did you hear a woman’s voice?
Did you touch it, did it do anything?
Can you retrieve it and bring it to the Mansion?
Master Ploon tells you it was brought here a few years ago, by Chodonakis, in a large 6-wheeled wagon, guarded by a full troop of Zygarian Cavalry. The laborers told Ploon that they heard a woman’s voice from inside.
Ploon looks right at Adora, wants to know what she thinks and makes it clear she is to be in charge of the recovery effort. And it is to be kept a secret from any not in the room (which you all take to mean Ris Balthus)
Lieres and Aziagos believe that they can get to the mausoleum through the tunnels, and Adora goes to fetch Maisara for planning tonight’s delve.
At sunset all have gathered, packed their gear, and headed out. Aziagos has purchased two sand-timers, of one hour each. He gave one to Adora as a backup, as they would like to return before sunrise. Even with Maisara’s Warrant, they decide to err on the side of secrecy.
Entering the tunnels, leads to a stone block, some 8 feet thick with a 2’ x 3’ hole chiseled through. On the other side, a dirt tunnel, with freshly-hewn beams and lintels holding back the dirt. The passage leads some 200 feet or more to the West, and some 50 feet to the north, before climbing up and returning to the white stone. A short passage had been dug and there were tools and lanterns at the end of it. The passage smelled of fresh-cut stone and sweat.
They turned around and went the other direction at the “T”, back into the dirt tunnels for another hundred feet or so, until they came to a stair leading up.
At the top of this stair, they found a constructed stone tunnel leading off to the north (?) and a more southerly passage leading into word grey stone block construction. In this hallway were several crypts, burial niches really, with canvas-wrapped bodies in them.
There is a strange sound coming from the northerly stone tunnel, it sounds like pieces of gravel falling to the ground.
We are not done yet…stay tuned!
LFG Playtest Campaign 1 – The Shadow of Evil Chaos is an experiment with a new (to me) game system, Low Fantasy Gaming, and a new magic hack designed to bring the atmosphere of danger from the pulp novels of Swords & Sorcery. We are playing fully online over a Discord Voice server, using some home-brew maps, art and characters designed on the HeroForge 3D printing site.
